We were honored to have Mrs. Toshie Kasada visit from Japan for Professor Gunji's retirement celebration. She is amazingly talented in the art of kimono dressing....
Although Professor Gunji will be in the office until August 15 of this year, we spent the recent weekend celebrating her accomplishments and her upcoming retirement. Thank you to everyone that attended the open house, the dinner, wrote with congratulations or sent a donation to the Kimiko Gunji Legacy Fund. The Legacy Fund will be used to contruct a Japanese style bridge in the Japan House gardens in her honor, as well as fund visiting artists and teachers for Japan House.
We will have pictures of the events soon but for now please take the time to watch this video made by Amy Harwath about Gunji-sensei and her legacy.
and until we got our official pictures....here is one last shot of the taiko drums after they had finished performing. What an extraordinary performance by Ho Etsu Taiko of the Midwest Buddhist Temple in Chicago! Thanks to them for traveling down here and making the evening even more special!
